Well, that is what they say but never one to accept defeat I’m getting back in the saddle to pick up where I left off in 2014 after I had to give up due to Angina on the 4th day for which I had to have heart surgery with 3 stents.
Vietnam to Cambodia is remarkable challenge that goes from the colourful city of Ho Chi Minh in Southern Vietnam to historic Angkor Wat in Cambodia, focussing on the incredible Mekong and taking us through Phnom Penh and across Tonle Sap Lake before finally arriving at the magnificent temple of Angkor Wat
I’m pleased to report that training started well with a few trips along the path beside the Thames. Then came the family holiday to Tenerife but despite lots of late nights and perhaps a little too much drinking I still managed to clock up the miles on the bike. Another interruption to the training schedule with a cruise meant switching the gym and a static bike. Not going anywhere and being inside has never been for me so I’m struggling to keep the training going and now wondering why at my age I took this on, but off to Tenerife again for so intensive training before I fly out to start what should be an incredible but challenging adventure.
It is not too late to sponsor me here
CHOICE Cambodia – supporting a community in need
I had hoped to visit the school we sponsor “Choice” in Cambodia, but unfortunately now have a meeting scheduled with the Royal Navy so will not be able to build that into this trip but will be back in the New Year with my sons.
Choice Cambodia is a non-profit organisation close to DSI’s hearts. CHOICE provides support to the local community in three main areas:
- Education and training for children – The CHOICE centre also provides free English lessons, computer classes, books, and uniforms for nearly 200 children.
- Medical assistance to adults and children – Providing medicine, vaccinations, birth control, and health care and support for the community.
- Family assistance – Supporting those who require extra support and assistance.
The school has gone from strength to strength over the last 10 years as you can see in this short video.
