As their users leverage and utilise applications and data in new ways, enterprises are prioritising IT and digital transformation projects to stay relevant. A new generation of nimble, tech-savvy organisations is keeping the old boys with legacy systems on their toes, often outperforming them in key areas. These disruptors have something in common – they have all embraced hyperconvergence.
Hyperconverged infrastructure consolidates core storage, compute, and storage networking functions into a single stack, and there’s several business benefits to this.
The business benefits are fivefold: workload consolidation, flexibility and scale, data protection compliance, automation and greater efficiency. In the real-world, this translates to a more agile business and dependable IT system.
Global market intelligence firm IDC conducted some highly conclusive research into the business value of modernisation. They interviewed organisations who’ve already deployed Dell EMC solutions and found that on average, businesses have seen:
• 61% ROI over 5-years
• 6-months to system payback
• 59% lower cost of operations
• 73% faster to deploy
• 83% less staff time to complete extensions
• 81% less staff time to deploy storage
• 98% less unplanned downtime
• 42% improved application performance
For the report, IDC interviewed seven organisations, small to large, with employee numbers ranging from a few hundred to over 20,000.
Businesses reported winning more business contracts thanks to hyperconvergence, being able to deploy, maintain and support Dell EMC easily and across the board, they reported experiencing far fewer impactful application and system outages. The reduction was rated at 98%, a number legacy systems can never hope to match.
Modernising infrastructure and replacing legacy systems with a new, hyperconverged framework may sound daunting, but businesses don’t have to design their own technology stack. Commercially available hyperconverged solutions, such as Dell EMC VxRail (an appliance-based solution), are ready to go and endlessly configurable. Consider these when planning your own IT and digital transformation projects.
