What a great Saturday we had supporting HMS Collingwood at the annual Navy and Royal Marines Charity Field Gun Competition.
With its origins going back to 1899, competing in Field Gun competitions demands teamwork, leadership, and moral and physical courage.
After 3 years when the event had to be cancelled, it was great to see so many teams back competing in front of nearly 6000 people spectators. There were 21 crews from units across the Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force, including units from overseas such as Naples, Gibraltar and Cyprus, currently competing for the prestigious Brickwoods trophy.
Watching the teamwork that each company put in to do this Gun run was terrific, they do make this look very simple but just as a FYI each of the wheels that they take off and carry is 45kg each. You can watch the video of the runs here.
We were very well looked after all day and the while Navy team could not do enough to make sure we were made welcome and part of their team. DSI and our team here are looking forward to a long-standing relationship with HMS Collingwood and the Royal Navy.
Congratulations to HMS Seahawk who won the RNRMC Field Gun Competition at HMS Collingwood Open Day.
It was all very inspiring to see the live competition and get such a great insight into how highly disciplined, motivated, and physically fit these Field Gunners are.
P.S never one to shirk a challenge Dave Lyons may look to take part in the Gun Running test event next year.
